Congratulations and Welcome Brandy Russell

Brandy Russell, associate professor of chemistry at Gustavus Adolphus College, is the new Director of the Midstates Consortium for Math and Science as of Sept. 1. As director, Russell will collaborate with students and faculty at the 13 member campuses to develop high-quality programming with the goal of improving undergraduate education.

“I am excited to continue the diverse array of successful Consortium programming,” says Russell, “I am especially interested to explore ways to use technology and the internet to enhance interactions among faculty at member institutions. I also plan to explore new professional development opportunities for students.”

Russell holds a B.A. degree in chemistry from Alfred University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Rochester. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and began her career at Gustavus in 2005, where she is currently an associate professor of chemistry. During her time at Gustavus, she has served as the coordinator of the annual Celebration of Creative Inquiry, the Kendall Center Faculty Associate for Engaged Learning, and the Director of Undergraduate Research Programs for Gustavus’ recent HHMI award.
