T-cell mediated autoimmune diseases
Autoimmunity is a hypersensitivity reaction of the immune system against self-antigens. Most autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, diabetes) are initiated by inappropriate activation of T lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. In this lecture we'll review the types and classifications of autoimmune diseases, the factors that favor their initiation and different therapeutic possibilities.
