The use of respiratory cell culture systems to study virus-host cell interactions: influenza, SARS coronavirus and hantavirus
We utilize primary, differentiated cultures of mouse or hamster tracheal epithelial cells to understand the replication of respiratory viruses such as influenza A virus, new world hantaviruses and SARS-CoV. These cultures are a faithful representation of the airway epithelium in vivo, allowing us to study virus-epithelial cell interactions in a controlled environment and to understand epithelial-specific responses to virus infection.
